Only Chinese instructions but it worked for me, March 10, 2010

Charger came with only Chinese language instructions, and Chinese language packaging. Even the words on the charger itself are Chinese. So I have no idea what the four colored lights are supposed to represent. But, I put in a battery that was dead and saw two red lights. When I woke up in the morning, there was one red and one green light. I replaced the battery in my remote and was at 100% battery power again. Yay!

A few other notes. My two batteries — or at least, the first one I tried — arrived with no charge in them. I had to charge one overnight before using it. The construction of the charger is pretty cheap, but hopefully it won’t burn my house down when I use it. And, finally, my fear about having to resynch the remote after replacing the battery were unfounded. My programming was still intact, and I could use it right away with the new battery.

Be aware – limited memory for learning, July 2, 2008

I was really excited about getting this remote because it was a decent price, looked good, and had the ability to learn functions for remotes that weren’t coded in. I’m tired of the pile of remotes I have on my coffee table, and I wanted to be able to store them away while I had a single remote do most of what I needed.

Unfortunately it’s not listed anywhere in the specs that I could find, but the memory on board is only good for about 30-40 buttons. I have a few devices that either had no codes available, or didn’t have all of the commands listed. This includes my Samsung DLP, my Samsung HT system, and my DVR, none of which had full command sets pre-programmed in, so all of them needed to have the commands added through the learning function.

I only bothered to have the R6 learn the commands I actually used on the remotes, but even before I was half way through programming the codes for my home theater system, the component button would just flash an…

Works with Comcast DTA Box (Pace DC50X)

The Comcast/Pace DTA uses a newer IR “xmp” protocol that many learning remotes will not recognize (including my URC MX-1000). An older Magnavox 13 in. color TV in one of the spare bedrooms could not be controlled by the remote supplied with the DTA, but this URC R6 solved the problem in that it was compatible with both the TV and the DTA.

Great Universal Remote!!!, July 28, 2008

This is a high quality and versatile remote. I purchased it on Wal-Mart for and I am very happy with my purchase. It will control most of the functions on your devices.

PROS:

High quality feel

It is made out of good quality plastic and the buttons have a nice feedback. The device keys light up when pressed. Clean design and layout.

Easy to program

I use it to control the main functions on my TV, DVD, Home Theater and Cable Box. The basic device functions worked after punching a 3 digit code listed on the manual. I had to program the rest by placing the original remote in front and following simple instructions. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. The remote will not loose your setup if you remove the batteries.

Macros

It can be programmed to run a set of instructions by pressing only one button. For e.g. with the click of one button turn on the TV, Stereo and Cable Box.

Great replacement battery, April 7, 2011

One day I thought it was odd that I had not charged my old battery in months, even though it was fully charged. So I opened the battery cover to remove the battery and it was swelled stuck. The old battery inflated like a balloon and I had to use pliers to remove it. I ordered a replacement battery and it worked. So far no swelling. I think I have avoided damaging the Harmony One remote.

I bought three of these for my home last week to replace a pile of remotes in my living room, den and bedroom. For each room, I needed at least some of the buttons on each of the remotes to do this or that. No more, thanks to the “learning” function.

You start out, of course, by putting in the code for each device as found in the table in the back of the manual. Under Satellite, DirecTV codes were listed but not my DishTV device. No problem. The “search for correct code” function found it after just a few keystrokes.

Now, after that, some of the functions were missing. For instance, after coding in my DVD device, the Sony600 remote did not seem to have a button that would open/close the DVD tray door … even though the original DVD remote did. No problem. This Sony600 easily “learns” what your original remote buttons do. The Sony600′s DVD “exit” button didn’t do anything, so I taught it to do what my original remote’s “open/close” button…

Amazing value for what you get, March 30, 2007

I was considering a harmony remote to consolidate my remotes, but I just couldn’t justify the price. I’ve used the pronto when they first came out several years ago, so I’m somewhat familiar with what to expect with features for high end universal remotes.

On to the review, I paid nearly full retail price for this remote (a whopping ), but I don’t regret it because this is a purchase that is actually very useful for me. There are lots of universal remotes on the market, but I chose this one because:

1. It is not over-cluttered with buttons. Some people may want more buttons, but not me. The more buttons the higher the level of unfamiliarity with the device and the longer it takes to get used to. Particularly if you tend to use tactile feel (rather than sight) to navigate your way around the remote like I do.

Quite possibly the perfect remote, April 3, 2007

Several years ago I picked up a Sony RM-VL900. I was amazed at how versatile it was. Easy to program, it did everything, and my wife could easily understand how to use our complex home entertainment system because of it. At the time, I reviewed the remote and gave it 5 stars which it still deserves even 4 years later. To this day I have friends that swear by the other universal remotes they own, yet they always seem to have a pile of original remotes handy to cover stuff their universal remotes can’t do. With the Sony, all my other remotes are put away and most haven’t seen the light of day since I used them to program the Sony. There’s simply no need for them anymore.

4 Years later and my VL900 is still serving me well, but the printing on the buttons has worn off making it difficult for others to use. I looked for a replacement but they don’t make it anymore. I considered a high end Harmony remote at several hundred dollars, but after trying one out realized…

Not a big fan, and here’s why…, November 9, 2009

Most people, including myself, prefer an all-in-one remote that AT MINIMUM has actual, tactile keys for inputting channel numbers, controlling volume, and controlling your DVR (Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause, etc). The only tactile buttons on this remote out of the three listed above is for volume (oh, and channel up/down). It is virtually impossible to change channels (other than using the up/down buttons) or control your DVR without having to look at the remote, because the only way to perform these functions is using the LCD display. To make matters worse, you can’t fit the numeric controls and the DVR controls on the same LCD page, which means you have to switch between pages to access the numeric controls one one page and the DVR controls on another. As an avid TV viewer and DVR user, this control makes the whole viewing experience even more frustrating than using my separate remotes to control devices independently.

I’ve had a Harmony remote for years. It was my best gadget investment last decade, and my wife loved it. But we’ve worn it down, and needed a replacement. I wanted one with a touchscreen. The Harmony One would be an obvious choice – but IMO it is too ugly to deserve a place in my living room. After having read a lot of reviews, I decided to try my luck with the Prestigo 9320. It had a lot to deliver – and it did.

The Prestigo is very simple to configure, you don’t need a PC, which means you can fine tune the remote from the couch within seconds. With the Harmony you need a PC, and it takes 2-3 minutes to transfer your settings. With these kind of devices there is an element of trial and error, so it makes a huge difference to be able to test rapidly.

The Prestigo has been hammered in the reviews for not having an interactive Help button – and it doesn’t – but it has something else, that I find superior. When an activity is started, and a device hasn’t started…

A superior Smart Remote, better than Harmony One, and I have owned two of these…, August 30, 2010

After owning two of these remotes for well over a year, I have finally decided to take the time to write an honest review. The product deserves it.

I purchased my first unit in June, 1999, and it worked well until I dropped it into a glass of Dr. Pepper. In searching for a replacement, I decided to buy the ever popular Logitech Harmony One, which I returned after a couple of weeks and repurchased the Philips Prestigo SRT9320 which I was so familiar with. I have been more than pleased with my decision.

This remote is a smart remote, which comes pre-programmed with hundreds of devices and channel icons. Programming is mostly automatic, done only on the remote, although a USB cable is included for Windows users to access the Internet and add channel icons and newer software at a later date. The software is, unfortunately, not Mac compatible, although I have really had no problems with this shortcoming as a Mac User. The remote also comes with a built in NiCad…

I use a Logitech 650 remote for my main TV and wanted a similar type smart remote to use with my set-up upstairs, but less expensive. This Prestigo remote performs similarly to the Logitech, but required a lot more work to get it to function. On the Logitech, when you program the remote it will retrieve the codes for your specific model if available. The Prestigo only wants the maker, the model number is optional, so some of the commands specific to a model may not be available. Also, where Logitech asked what input I was using on my TV during set-up so it could switch to it automatically, the Prestigo did not. So after initial set-up I was not truly happy. But once I started digging around in the software, I found where in the software I could set it up so it would switch to the correct input on start-up. Also, I was able to add functions that were missing from the initial set-up, using the original remotes and learning function. But much of this flexibility in programming is buried…

Perfect in many ways, April 17, 2011

Previous reviews were not fair to this remote. The software you will use to program this remote is about as straight forward as it can be for the level of programmability it provides. You get COMPLETE control of every button on the remote. The software first sets the remote up based on the equipment you have, but then you’re free to change whatever button you like. It is also a learning remote, so you can make any button do anything. It DOES have macro ability and this works fine, it’s very customizable. The only complaint here is you don’t get dedicated macro buttons, you have to access the “activity” through the LCD screen.

CONS

- User manual not available on line. If you try to download the software to check it out beforehand it won’t do anything without the remote being plugged in.

- Silver surround on the face is kind of cheesy looking and has a sharp edge.

Phillips SRU6008/27 Review, October 28, 2011

Pros:

-It has the ability to create “activities” (macros) – turning on several devices at once, changing to the right input on the TV, etc

-You can rename activities (I can call an activity “Watch Apple TV” as opposed to my wife or the babysitter having to remember “Watch a Movie” = watching the Apple TV)

-Non-proprietary USB cord

-Software is Mac compatible

Cons:

-Very small database of existing product codes

-Adding many devices requires pairing with the remote as opposed to the software knowing what product you added

-Lack of products means it may not understand or do all features (I don’t think the Prestigo can’t automatically turn of the Apple TV because it uses a command sequence, but I haven’t explored the software enough. Since the Harmony had Apple TV in its database, it could automatically).

Conclusion:

For my purposes, the ability to rename activities to whatever you want is pretty big. I tried a Logitech…

Difficult setup but good end result, December 28, 2005

The harmony remote connects to a computer using a USB cable. You then install some software on the computer and then navigate to a web site (harmonyremote.com) to configure the remote control. All of the configuration is dependent on this web site. On one hand, this is good in that this web site should always have the latest device commands in its database. However, the drawback is that you have to contend with a web/HTML interface and the wait times associated with a web-based application. Personally I think it would have been better to have a normal installed Windows application that can receive updates on new supported devices over the internet.

Configuring the remote was not that easy but was possible. Basically if you have fairly “well-behaved” and well supported devices with no special characteristics or requirements, their wizards should get the remote configured quickly. I bought one of these a few weeks ago because I was tired of juggling three remotes. I had tried several other “universal” devices, only to find it impossible to get all the functions included in any reasonable fashion.

The harmony remotes, rather than being programmed using code numbers, are set up through a USB cable and a web site. That means there is a little extra time at the front end, involving loading the PC-based software (more later), the firmware update to the remote, and then the config information. The benefit is that you get almost limitless flexability in defining how the remote works.

Another wonderful feature is that it understands operating modes. If you push the “Watch TV” button it will turn on, for example, your TV, your set top box, and your TIVO. The button labled “FF” will control your TIVO. If you push “Watch a Movie”, again the appropriate devices will be turned on (and the inappropriate ones off if you choose to set it that…

I love this remote I took all the other ones, and placed the in the drawer. The software for this is really simple to use, and follow it really walks you through the setup process really well. The best part is you can program it to do certain things for example: If you want to watch a DVD, it will turn on the TV, DVD Player, and Audio System all at the same time – how cool is that! This is worth the money – the dog even got ahold of the remote and did a number on it, and it still works! The screen could be a little bit larger though, not by much!

This is a very nice addition to my PS3. I recently bought this to go along with my Harmony 520 remote, which I also recommend. It was available for which is a very reasonable price. It took some playing with to set the OK button to Enter but after I did that it worked seamlessly. The only downer from this is that it does not turn it off but I knew that when I ordered it. When I received the IR it was packaged extremely well, very safe. All and all, this is a great product and would highly recommend.

I have had one of these for over 2 years now and it outlived my ps3! It works perfectly with my harmony one remote as advertised with only the inability to turn off the ps3.

I have a new 120gb ps3 on the way and hopefully it will continue to work.

Just plug it in and either use your old PS2 remote or universal remote using Playstation2 codes. Great way to use your PS3 as a Blue-Ray player in your home theater. No more juggling remotes, only thing it can’t do is turn the PS3 on and off but that’s the fault of Sony not the adapter. Once installed it blends in perfectly with the front of the PS3. Wish it were cheaper but it works great.
